Nuclear Power Is More Economical

State-owned Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) has decided to increase the power generation capacity by 2010. The company would add over 2,600 Mw to the national grid in the coming period.

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) is all set to construct five new nuclear plants to enhance its power capacity. The country is expected to expand its civil nuclear program after the completion of indo-US nuclear pact, signed between PM Manmohan Singh and US president Gorge W Bush. The company will also set up a facility to start nuclear reprocessing. NPCIL is in talks with global fuel suppliers such as GE, Westinghouse and Areva to ensure the adequate supply of fuel to the country’s nuclear power plants.

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) have currently 17 nuclear reactors under its supervision. The country can also give approval to private sector to enter in the nuclear power program after amending the Indian Atomic Energy Act, 1962.
