Sydney - Police in the Australian east coast town of Gympie smashed a window to rescue a seemingly unconscious baby from a locked car only to find they had liberated an inordinately lifelike baby doll, news reports Friday said. 

It was not an isolated mistake. 

The creator of Reborn baby dolls, Vynette Cernik, told Australia's AAP news agency that police in the United States had also broken into a vehicle to grab what turned out to be a Reborn doll belonging to the owner's wife. (dpa)
