Shiromani Akali Dal pledges to back NDA in Parliament confidence vote
Chandigarh, July 10 : As the Congress began its head count ahead of a likely confidence vote in the Lok Sabha, the Shiromani Akali Dal today pledged to back the opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Shiromani Akali Dal Chief and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said: "All decisions taken by the NDA are acceptable to our party. In the event of voting, the party will support the NDA."
He declared that a final decision on the issue would be taken at the party''s Political Affairs Committee meeting on July 15.
The party has eight members in the Lok Sabha who can play a crucial role during the confidence vote.
Party General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said the party is in favour of the nuclear deal, but this did not mean that it would vote in favour of the UPA.
Dhindsa who is also the party''s Parliamentary Board Chairman, demanded that the UPA Government seek a trust vote, as it lacks majority. (ANI)
