Aksh Optifibre Signs Deal With BSNL For IPTV In 20 Cities

Cable and optical fibre maker, Aksh Optifibre has signed up an agreement with state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for providing Interactive Personalised Television (IPTV) on its broadband network in the north Indian market.

According to the contract, the company aspires to add up 10,000 subscribers within the next nine months across 20 cities across the northern region of India including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh (West).

BSNL has a total landline network of 40-million across India, and six-million in north India that showed that there is vast scopein the market for IPTV services.

The cost towards this project is likely to be Rs 500 crore, which would be funded through resources raised from the global market.

In January, the company concluded a GDR and FCCB issue of USD 40-million to part finance the IPTV and Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services in Delhi and Mumbai.
Aksh-tel, Aksh Optifibre's IPTV delivers television programming, which comes with a high-quality reception and several unique add-on features including time-shift television, video on demand etc. It offers up more than 150 channels and plans to continue increasing the channel range for consumers.   

At 12:15 pm, shares of the company declined 2.2%, to trade at Rs 44 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
