NFL Star Devon Still Says His 5-Year-Old Daughter has been declared cancer-free

After struggling with cancer for a year and undergoing a treatment that consisted of innumerable scans and other painful procedures, Leah Still, daughter of former Cincinnati Bengals player Devon Still, has at last been declared cancer free by doctors attending on her.

Having won the Jimmy V. Perseverance Award at last year’s ESPYs, Leah underwent multiple treatments over the one-year period, which included chemotherapy and surgery.

In a post on Twitter, Devon wrote that Leah, after being diagnosed with stage-4 neuroblastoma in 2014, was currently in hospital for her last scheduled treatment, a regular scan to ensure that the deadly disease has not returned.

Leah was four years old when she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an ailment that develops from immature nerve cells found in many parts of the body. The Mayo Clinic says the disease mainly affects kids below five years of age.

Giving details about his little daughter's battle with cancer, Devon wrote an emotional message on Twitter saying it was in March 2015 that Leah was cleared of cancer, and the follow-up tests found no evidence of the disease staging a return.

“It’s crazy to sit here in the hospital know that after leah [sic] gets discharged tomorrow we are really done with this chapter in our lives”, wrote Still, posting along with the message a picture of little Leah smiling at the camera while waiting for her scheduled cancer scan at the hospital.

Devon, who recently signed a contract to play the defensive tackle position with the Houston Texans, wrote in another message on Instagram, “41 days of chemotherapy, 40 days of antibody therapy, 19 days of radiation and one seven-hour surgery… Leah has been officially declared cancer free by her doctors in March and finished her last treatment Monday night”.
