It has been found in a new research that females favor a higher room temperature than males, whether its office or home; temperatures in offices are maintained to provide comfort to the average 154-pound, man of 40 years, for the reason that it was a done in the 1960s when standards were prepared.

As per researchers at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, it is required that offices start reducing gender-discriminating bias in predictions related to thermostat comfort.

The study analyzed women who have sitting job and prefer wearing light clothes. It has been found by researchers that the women were having metabolic rates 20 to 32% lower than what was for male workers, for whom air conditioning levels have been set.

Dr. Paula Harvey, interim chief of medicine at Toronto's Women's College Hospital is not surprised with the findings.

She usually has two scarves as well as an extra jacket behind her office door. And her nearby assistant uses a desk heater, and an office manager of the hospital carries a shawl to fight the chill. Harvey said that the way of dressing leads to the difference in the way, men and women feel regarding temperature.

She also said that the majority of males have a higher metabolic rate than females that usually indicates a higher body temperature.

Dr. Devi Nampiaparampil of NYU School of Medicine said, "Women tend to wear skirts, so maybe they have their legs kind of bare and cold, and their arms might be out. Men wear more layers. They tend to wear jackets or suits".
