A new research paper by James Hansen, leading climate scientist, has unveiled that sea levels are increasing more rapidly than though before. His paper has also unveiled that 2 degrees Celsius limit agreed by world leaders is 'highly dangerous'.

James Hansen, leading climate scientist and activist, has termed the 2 degrees Celsius limit for earth's temperature as 'highly dangerous'. In his new research paper, Hansen has unveiled that sea levels are increasing more quickly than previously believed.

The paper titled, 'Ice melt, sea level rise and superstorms: evidence from paleoclimate data, climate modeling, and modern observations that 2 °C global warming is highly dangerous' has been published in the journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Discussion.

Hansen has published the paper along with 16 other researchers. In the paper, they have highlighted about a scenario of potentially rapid sea-level rise clubbed with more intense storm systems. Hansen said that it is quite difficult to ignore where the planet could be headed.

The researchers said, "Humanity is rapidly extracting and burning fossil fuels without full understanding of the consequences. Current assessments place emphasis on practical effects such as increasing extremes of heat waves, droughts, heavy rainfall, floods, and encroaching seas".

Hansen and his co-authors suggested that it is vital to understand this threat as soon as possible. The researchers have said that there is an evidence of ice melt, sea level rise to nine meters.

The researchers have warned that if the ocean continues to collect heat and increase melting of marine-terminating ice shelves of Antarctica and Greenland then a point will reach where it would not be possible to avoid large- scale ice sheet melting with sea level rise at least several meters.
