SpaceX’s Falcon 9 Explodes soon after Launch
NASA said that an unmanned cargo ship of SpaceX meant to reach at the International Space Station (ISS) exploded minutes after being launched from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The incident that has taken place on Monday morning has raised questions as to how the agency will now manage to provide supplies to the station.
In the last eight months, it was the third such incident. But NASA officials seem to be prepared such a situation. They do not think that the incident would cause any major disruptions to the operations. The 208-foot-tall Falcon 9 rocket built by Space Exploration Technologies lifted off at 10.21am.
But after 2 minutes and 19 seconds later, it exploded. George Diller, the commentator, said that it could be a launch vehicle failure. Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX's president, stated that the problem took place in the second stage.
"We're not going to speculate. We're not going to give information early only to have to pull it back and say: 'Nope, it wasn't that. It was something else'", said Shotwell.
The rocket was carrying more than 4,000 pounds of payload. The Payload also included experiments, a replacement spacesuit, a camera to record meteors into Earth's atmosphere and a docking adapter.
Shotwell said that now the company will be required to regroup and that will take months, but less than a year.
