Strange feature seen on Pluto
New Horizons spacecraft is nearly three weeks from navigating through the Pluto system and images sent by the spacecraft are already leading to many assumptions. The latest photos sent by the spacecraft reveal a possible bright spot at polar cap of Pluto.
According to reports, it has been shown in the images that Charon, which is the dwarf planet’s massive moon, has an inquisitive dark spot. Alan Stern, New Horizons principal investigator, said, “Who ordered that?” It has been learnt from Hubble images that Pluto’s small moons are uncontrollably rotating, and one among them appears to be too dark.
As per reports, a feature on the Plutoscape – a landform is believed to be present on the dwarf world. Until now, this feature is thought to be present in one place in the solar system; it has not been understood properly. The feature is found on Saturn’s strange moon Iapetus, which is a world with a two-toned surface that is quite similar to the rowdily varied surface of Pluto.
This feature has the huge mountain range, which is straight just as an arrow along three-quarters of the Iapetian equator.
Lapetus’ mountain ridge is considered to be the best and one of a kind. It rises approximately 20 kilometers high in some parts. Scientists were unaware regarding its existence until the Cassini spacecraft looked at the walnut-shaped moon in 2004 and discovered mountains that dwarf the highest peaks on Earth.
