12-Year-Old Shark Victim walks for First Time after attck
A 12-year-old shark attack victim from Archdale has walked for the first time since the time she was bitten. Kiersten Yow was attacked earlier this month at Oak Island by a shark, but she has shown tremendous courage during this time.
She was lucky that a medic was present at the scene, as otherwise her story would have ended in a very different manner. Marie Hilbreth, a medic from Charolette, was on vacation at the time. She heard ‘Shark Attack’ and rushed towards the scene.
The medic has praised Yow for remaining so strong. She fought for her life after being attacked by the shark. It was a great moment to see her walking on her legs, as they feared that she would lose her legs.
Hilbreth said when reached at the spot, she saw Yow on the beach bleeding profusely from one of her arms and legs. They took a strong off a boogie board and someone gave her a string off a tent and they tied off as much as they could.
It was very important to keep Yow alert. Therefore, Hilbreth kept on asking her questions. She praised Yow’s parents who rather than getting panicked handled situation calmly. “Her parents did an amazing job, keeping cool, not showing emotion, and supporting her. That can really change a situation”, said the medic.
They also came to know that after 90 minutes, Hunter Treschel, 16, was also attacked on the same beach around 90 minutes later and less than two miles away. In the incident, Hunter lost his arm.
