NASA Releases 2015 Technical Roadmap

NASA technical’s said that in next 20 years they will have a heavy dose of cloud supercomputing, cognitive computing, big data as well as robots that will be efficient at interacting with humans in a better way.

The 2015 technical roadmap from NASA is a document designed to support the space agency's missions that includes trip to Mars, developing new technologies to make computers that can withstand radiation.

The American space agency is seeking for comments on its technology roadmaps, which are an element of its strategic technology investment plan.

The agency said in its introduction that the roadmaps are specifically designed to highlight needs for 2015 to 2035.

It further said that NASA’s ambitious missions require that the agency must expand the frontiers of their technological capabilities to deal with difficult problems.

For space exploration the agency has find a technology that could help in creating an environment for humans to live and work in space. It will also have to pave ways of navigation and travelling to distant locations, manufacturing products in space, landing on and departing from planetary surfaces, and quickly communicating between the Earth and space systems.

In the field of Aeronautics, the challenges are equally tough, as the agency has to create high-fidelity, integrated, and distributed simulation systems; next generation air traffic control; and next generation vehicles.

On the information technology sector, NASA indicated that it will continue to have a hybrid environment. NASA noted that broad user of cloud computing is cost prohibitive for now.

The agency said achieving these technology objectives will enable NASA to use the cloud for surge supercomputing when needed to meet mission-critical time constraints by transparently sending computations to public clouds.

NASA also noted that t will have to use exascale computing to simulate and integrate the moving parts of a mission.
