A young bald eagle is getting better and a $1,000 reward is offered for information on the person who shot a young Bald Eagle.

According to Claudia Wheatley, spokeswoman for the Cornell Veterinary School, the bird cannot fly again and can also never go back to the wild. Wildlife veterinarians did surgery on it at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals in Ithaca.

A hiker with his dog discovered the eagle on Saturday in Otsego County. The bird first received the treatment by the New York Wildlife Rescue Center in Schoharie County and after that moved to the Cornell facility. According to the rescue center, a reward is there for information that leads to the conviction of the person accountable.

The incident took place before April 25 and in it, wing of the bird had been broken. According to Cornell University veterinarians, the bird was injured by a gun shot. According to the New York Wildlife Rescue Center, the reward amount will increase. Payment will be given upon the arrest and conviction of the person accountable.

Condition of the bird is stable and probably it will survive. Anyone who has information related to the issue can call the DEC hotline at 1-844-332-3267 and callers can remain unidentified. An investigation to find the shooter is in progress. Bald eagles are protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.

According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, a violation of the act can result in a criminal fine of $100,000, imprisonment for one year, or both, for a first offense. The state Department of Environmental Conservation is looking for the public's aid in finding the person responsible.
