Pak identifies land for building its Mumbai consulate

PakistanLahore, May 6 : Pakistan has reportedly finalized a 4000-square meter plot near the Mumbai airport which it would be soon acquiring for constructing its Mumbai consulate building.

On the instructions of New Delhi, the Maharashtra government had identified the land, following which Pakistani officials made the final selection, reported the Daily Times.

Pakistan closed down its consulate in Mumbai in 1992 following a diplomatic standoff between the two countries.

Officials from the two countries decided at a meeting three years ago that Pakistan would reopen its consulate in Mumbai, while India would establish its consulate in Karachi.

Pakistan’s first preference was for the 1936-built Jinnah House at Mallahwar hill. However, successive Indian governments rejected this request. Hence, a new piece of land has been identified for the construction of Pakistan’s Mumbai consulate building. (ANI)
