Irish EU presidency to focus on the deal on Anglo promissory notes
The Irish government's EU presidency will focus on reaching a deal on the Anglo promissory notes in the coming months.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny said that the Ireland's presidency will immediately focus on reaching Anglo promissory notes and will aim at concluding the deal before the 31 March, ahead of the next deadline. Kenny was speaking following a meeting with the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy.
The Irish presidency had said in a statement that, "The core themes of the Irish presidency will be stability, jobs and growth in Europe. The year 2013 will usher in a new phase in the European Union's drive for recovery. The Irish presidency of the council is about securing stability and ensuring that it leads to jobs and growth."
Taoiseach also said that the government will continue to work towards reducing Ireland's bank debt during the presidency of EU during the coming 6 months. The meeting between the two leaders was among the first major event of the presidency.
The Tanaiste also said that the government will also work on proposals for the EU banking union during the presidency.
