Sony’s Windows 8 convertible VAIO Duo 11 tablet, 4K TV coming to Australia by year-end
Announcing a slew of new devices at the IFA 2012 conference in Berlin on Wednesday, Sony also revealed on a live-streamed Australian press conference that its Windows 8-based hybrid tablet and `ultra definition' 4K TV set will hit the Australian market by the year-end.
Sony said in its new products-related announcement that a new lineup of VAIO touch-based devices - including the hybrid VAIO Duo 11 convertible slider tablet, and the VAIO Tap 20 desktop - will be available in the stores in Australia from the end of October.
About the new VAIO devices, Sony disclosed that while the 1.3kg VAIO Duo 11 is a convertible slider which transforms an 11.6-inch tablet into an ultrabook PC; the new VAIO Tap 20 desktop boasts a 20-inch touchscreen, and has the unique capability of being positioned differently --- flat, tilting or desktop-style.
In addition to the new VAIO lineup, Sony also revealed that its updated Android-based Xperia Tablet S has been scheduled for a mid-September release in Australia. Thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the updated Xperia Tablet S will run the Android OS 4.0 `Ice Cream Sandwich' version; and will feature a 9.4-inch screen and Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor.
Meanwhile, about the Australian availability of Sony's first 4K TV - the Bravia 84-inch XBR-84X900 -, the company said that the TV will arrive at the Australian stores later this year. The 84-inch screen of the TV will boast 3840x2160 resolution, which would be four times the resolution of the standard high-definition TVs.
