El Nino unlikely to influence India, says senior weather office

El Nino unlikely to influence India, says senior weather officeAccording to a senor weather official, the El Nino weather phenomenon is not likely to affect the weather patterns in India.

The El Nino phenomenon is the warming up of the ocean surface temperatures in the eastern and central Pacific. It causes below average rainfall for the Asia Pacific region and more than average rainfall in America. El Nino results in a lower than average rainfall in Asia and affects he production of food grains.

L. S. Rathore, chief at the India Meteorological Department said that such weather pattern is only likely to develop from august. He also said that monsoon has improved and is likely to cover the whole country on Wednesday. The monsoon rains are likely to remain below average until next week.

The meteorological department of the Government of India has shown that no place in the country except for Lakshadweep, has received above than average rainfall. Until June 30, the rain fall in the country was 29 per cent below average.

There are concerns that a below average monsoon this year could affect the agriculture production in the country and affect the economy that is already facing a slowdown.
