UK could face floods because risks are being ignored, warn scientists

Scientists have warned that the UK could face more impacts of the climate change including floods, heatwaves and droughts as the risks are being ignored in areas such as planning and water supplies.

The Committee on Climate Change report stated that the UK was getting close to being taking care of areas such as water supplies and flooding. However, the impacts of climate change could make it difficult in achieving desired results.

Government’s climate advisers have issued a warning saying urban areas are being developed despite the risk of flooding. There are certain rules to avoid flooding like the separation of surface water from all new development has been enforced since 1984. However, several risks are being ignored in planning water supplies in the UK.

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council has issued a statement saying that the impacts of climate change as a threat to international peace and security. It said during its meeting on climate change that possible adverse effects of climate change may, in the long run, affect peace and stability.
