Rovio sued for violating patents by Lodsys

The maker of popular game Angry Birds, Rovio has been sued by Lodsys, which claims that the Finnish games company has violated its patents.

Lodsys, a company based in Texas that claims of owning a number of patented technologies, claims that it owns patents on the method used to buy new levels inside the popular game of Rovio.

Lodsys filed a patent lawsuit in a Texas court naming Finland's Rovio for violating its rights. The company claims that Rovio used technology owned by it with seeking permission in versions of Angry Birds for iPhone and Android.

Lodsys is asking for injunctions and damages in its complaint. The move will bring in Apple deeper into the case to protect its developers as Lodsys s already engaged in lawsuit alleging that Apple developers violate on its in-app payment technology.

Apple had said that it will protect it rights as well as the rights of its developers, who may want a quick and inexpensive resolution to the threats from Lodsys. Lodsys has sent letters to the developers warming them of lawsuits if they failed to agree to a settlement.
