Pakistan bans onion exports to India

onionsRecently due to poor rain and certain black marketing and hoarding activities the prices of onions went sky high in India.

The condition so worse that the prices had reached a level of Rs. 80-90 per kg in the retail market making it almost impossible for the lower and middle class to afford it.

The entire crop in Maharashtra and Gujarat was destroyed and hence the supply was cut immensely raising the prices. India then took moves to reduce the prices in open markets as it started importing from Pakistan along with a ban in exports.

Pakistan in a hostile move has suddenly stopped exporting onions across the Wagah border. Pakistan also witnessed a very steep hike in the prices of onion which caused the move.

India has already imported as many as 300 trucks from the neighbors which has to a certain extend curtailed the price hike. Public Enterprises Company (PEC) and the State Trading Corporation (STC) under the Ministry of Commerce carried out the import of onions. The prices of onions as of now will witness another hike soon.
