Delhi: Airport Express Metro Line misses deadline
The Airport Express Metro Line of Delhi has missed its deadline of 30th September as the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) has not issued the mandatory clearance for the track yet and the speed trails have to be tested on the track to get the clearance.
The 22 kilometer long high speed metro corridor was scheduled to be opened for public use by 30th of September, just three days ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The track will connect the heart of the city, Connaught Place with the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The construction of the corridor was led by Reliance Infrastructure but it has to conduct the speed trails on the corridor which are mandatory to get the clearance.
The chief of the CMRS, R K Kardam has been on inspection of the corridor since Monday and he asked for the reason of delay in the process from the authorities.
The trains will run at a speed of 120km/hr on the tracks and the speed trail is necessary for such a speed inside the city. A spokesman for the authority has said the launch date will be announced only after getting all the necessary approvals.
