Reddy brothers’ mining operations get SC stay
On Monday, the Supreme Court (SC) allowed the stay order on the Reddy brothers' mining operations to be extended. These operations are going on in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Besides this, the SC has also directed the Survey of India (SoI) officials to submit their reports by April 22. This happened after the Reddy brothers were said to have encroached two mines.
The case was filed against the Reddy brothers and also the SoI. The panel from SoI had cleared a 68.5 hectare iron-ore mine project. It said in its report that there was no encroachment done.
The panel had also said that out of the 68.5 hectares, 66 hectares was going to be used for mining purposes. The rest 2.5 hectare was supposed to have new roads for better infrastructure.
But in the report that was submitted to SC, it was shown that the total land was being used for mining.
The work on these projects had been suspended on March 22 and a survey team was sent to assess the situation.
The case was filed by Tapal Ganesh, owner of Tumti Iron Ore, in 2006.
