Countdown begins for Sky to launch 3D channel in UK
BSkyB is all set to launch the first 3D Channel in UK on April 3 2010. BSkyB will offer its 3D satellite TV first time with telecasting the Premier League clash between Manchester United and Chelsea on Easter. Sky had made a trial of its 3D satellite TV in January while it aired the Premier League match between Manchester United and Arsenal in nine London pubs.
Sky said that it has made a contract with more than 1000 pubs and clubs across UK and Ireland. These pubs and clubs will air the Easter clash of Premier League clash in the new format of broadcasting. BSkyB, a pay TV company, said that till May it will air five more matches of the Premier League with the play off finals of the Coca-Cola Football League.
Sky said that it is just the beginning and it expects that tens of thousands pubs and clubs that are currently using its digital satellite service will upgrade to 3D satellite TV soon.
Initially, Sky will provide the new 3D channel to its high definition TV subscribers, who are eligible for its premium sports and movies services, for free of cost. The Sky 3D will be available through the normal EPG settings.
Sky also said that it has signed a contract with LG for supplying 3D TV sets to the pubs which air the game in 3D format.
