53 per cent growth in passenger traffic for JET Airways
India's largest private carrier, Jet Airways registered a growth of 53 per cent in domestic and about 28 per cent in international passenger traffic in the month of December 2009 from the same period last year.
As the demand rises, the average seat factor for the airline’s international operations was recorded at 84.9% for December. Jet Airways’ subsidiary and low cost carrier JetLite too registered a
23% growth in passenger traffic with an average seat factor of 81.5% for the month.
“We are confident that Jet Airways is on a growth curve, and our improving results in November and December 2009 reconfirm this,” said Nikos Kardassis, chief executive officer Jet Airways.
A total of about 3,67,246 passengers traveled by Jet in December compared to 2,86,711 in December 2008 on international sector. November 2009’s international passenger traffic was recorded at around 3,25,869.
Earlier, Jet Airways had recorded a growth of 33% in domestic and 19% in international passenger traffic for the month of November 2009. According to the data from the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA), the passenger traffic for the whole industry was 40 lakh passengers in November against 30.48 lakh in the same month last year.
Shares of the company rose 1.15% to close at Rs 540.35 on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday.
