walmartlogoInfosys technologies, Cognizant technology solutions and UST Global, the three IT firms of India have collectively bagged multi year contracts worth $600 million, from the Wal-Mart stores Inc, World's largest retailer.

It was the end of the year 2007 when Wal-Mart has started dealing with the leading software vendors including Oracle, HP and SAP for the packaged retail applications.

Estimates are that the three vendors will earn Rs 250 crore to Rs 300 crore, each in a year. The amount is expected to increase with the increase in the Wal-Mart's outsourcing of work from its main merchandising division. Moreover, the Infosys and Cognizant are expected to take away a larger share of this deal.

The contract has imposed Infosys and Cognizant with responsibility of application development and support, while UST Global will be responsible for specific testing of these applications.

Wal-Mart has selected the three vendors through a competitive bidding process in which most Indian IT services companies participated, except TCS, which is India's largest IT services firm.

Wal-Mart is the largest private employer and grocery retailer in the US. The company clocked revenues worth $404 billion in the year 2009,
