London  - The price of gold surged to a new high Monday, reaching 1130.25 dollars an ounce in London, investors said.

The price exceeded last Thursday's record by almost 8 dollars. Gold was fixed at 1104.00 dollars an ounce in London Friday.

The gold price broke through the 1100 mark for the first time last Monday.

Its continued rise since the beginning of the year by around 35 per cent has been linked to the weak dollar and growing interest by private and institutional investors. (dpa)
