Health services paralysed in Jammu

JammuMedical services across Jammu remained crippled as the indefinite strike by the junior doctors entered its third day today (Oct 7, 2009).

Around 4,000 junior doctors of Jammu are demanding revision in their pay packages.

The strike has been called by Doctors Joint Action Committee (DJAC).

It is learnt that the healthcare services were severely hit in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and hospitals at Samba, Rajouri, Ramban, Poonch, Udhampur, Kathua, Billawar, Basholi, Bhaderwah, Doda, Kishtwar and Batote area of Jammu region.

The majority of the hospital wards wore a deserted look as hundreds of patients were forced to shift to private nursing homes.

Only emergency services were being looked after by the senior doctors.

The doctors threatened to continue with their protest until their demands were accepted.

While speaking with the media persons, DJAC spokesman Dr. Satyainder Singh, said, "During the agitation the routine work in hospitals will remain shut down in entire Jammu division as about 4000 junior doctors are taking part in the indefinite strike. The strike would continue till the government does not accept our demands."
