Air India to soon submit revival plan

Air India to soon submit revival planThe management of recession hit Air India is likely to submit a comprehensive revival plan to the union government this week, indispensable for the carrier to come out of financial trouble.

The committee of secretaries headed by Cabinet Secretary K Chandrashekhar will review the plan as per government's directives and recommend package for the national carrier.

The carrier pledged to take all necessary steps to cut costs and increase revenue, apparently, to get support from government. The Airline has set a target to generate additional revenue of Rs 1800 crore over the next six months, addressing issues such as staff strength and performance linked incentives (PLIs), accounting to about 45 per cent of AI's total salary payout.

A source close to the development said, "At the moment, the PLI in many cases is huge, sometimes many times more than the salary and is not always related to performance. We need to restructure the PLI and save costs and make it directly related to performance."

AI has also proposed to involve eminent people in its 'International Advisory Board' to support its Board of Directors.
