Sensex In Red, Down 149.17 Pts

Stock MarketsThe Sensex continued to trade in the negative terrain after hitting a low of 13,219.99. Real estate, metal, automobile and power stocks saw the brunt of profit booking while consumer durables stocks were hammered very badly.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index lost 3.50% and 3.93% respectively.

Among the sectoral indices, BSE Consumer durables declined 6.42%, followed by realty sector, which lost 5.18%, Metal and Auto fell more than 3% each, Power and Capital goods lost more than 2%.

Today, the 30-share index, BSE Sensex belled the day at 13,405.95 after losing 98.27 points.

At 1:15 p. m., the 30-share index Sensex lost 149.17 points at 13,355.05 after hitting a high of 13,405.95.

In the meantime, the broad based Nifty lost 46.85 points at 3,957.05 after touching a high of 4,003.40 and a low of 3,918.75.

The major gainers in the 30-share index included Sun Pharma (up 1.98%), Wipro (up 1.51%), HDFC (up 1.40%), Infosys (up 1.33%), SBI (up 1.03%), and ITC (up 0.88%).

In contrast, the losers' list comprised JP Asso (down 6.93%), Mah & Mah (down 5.84%), Rel Energy (down 5.50%), DLF (down 5.10%), Tata Steel (down 4.92%), and Maruti Suzuki India (down 4.70%).

Japanese benchmark index Nikkei lost 236.95 points to trade at 9,050.33.

Hong Kong`s Hang Seng index declined 448.74 points to trade at 17,259.66 and China`s Shanghai Composite fell 33.38 points to trade at 3,080.56 (1.20 p. m, IST).
