Riesch clinches slalom title as Vonn crashes; win for Aubert
Ofterschwang, Germany - Maria Riesch of Germany clinched the women's slalom World Cup title after Lindsey Vonn of the United States crashed out on the second run in Ofterschwang on Saturday.
Vonn, who led the first leg, was on course for a top-place finish when she straddled a gate and fell, leaving Riesch in fifth place to win the discipline's crystal globe.
Sandrine Aubert of France posted a combined time of 1 minute 46.28 seconds to win on the day ahead of Sweden's Frida Hansdotter, 0.43 seconds behind, with Austria's Nicole Hosp third, at 0.82 seconds.
Vonn has a commanding lead of 369 points over Riesch in the overall standings, but will now have to wait until the four season-ending races starting on Wednesday in Are, Sweden to clinch the title for a second successive season. (dpa)
