Pyeongchang, South Korea - Olga Zaitseva of Russia clinched her second gold medal in as many days when she won the women's 12.5-kilometre mass start race on the final day of the biathlon world championships in Pyeongchang Sunday.

Zaitseva, who won with the Russian 4 x 6-kilometre relay team on Saturday missed the target twice on the way to a winning time of 34 minutes 18.3 seconds.

It was the first individual gold medal for 30-year-old Zaitseva at a major championship but her fourth medal in Pyeongchang after the relay gold and bronze medals in the pursuit and sprint races.

She was a relay gold medallist at the 2005 worlds and picked up another relay gold at the 2006 winter Olympics.

Russian-born Anastasia Kuzmina won silver for Slovakia, 7.5 seconds behind Zaitseva, with Sweden's pursuit gold medallist Helena Jonsson clinching bronze, 12.5 seconds behind the winner.

The German women's team were left empty-handed for the first time in the last of the women's races at the championships.

Andrea Henkel, who won three golds at the 2008 worlds in Ostersund, Sweden, led for much of the race but slipped back to fifth place after four penalty rounds.

Team-mate and overall World Cup leader Kati Wilhelm, who had won golds in the sprint and 15km individual races, trailed in 30th after seven penalty rounds.

A men's 4 x 7.5km relay race is scheduled later. (dpa)
