Bajaj Motorcycle August Sales Down 7%
New Delhi: Bajaj Auto, India’s second largest two-wheeler manufacturer has reported a seven per cent fall in its motorcycle sales (including exports) in August, which stood at 1,67,483 units as against 1,80,570 units in the corresponding period of the last year (August 2006).
The company said, “The growth of 100 cc motorcycles was registered due to product fatigue as which continued to weigh down the entire industry.”
The company’s total two-wheeler monthly sales went down by six per cent to 1,70, 203 units as against 1,82,013 units in the same period last year. On the other hand, its three-wheeler sales also turned down by two per cent in August 2007 to 25,504 units as compared to 26,150 units in August 2006.
The company also said that three-wheeler sales reflect the general weakness in the commercial vehicle demand.
Exports during the period under review zoomed 75 per cent to 56,452 units as against to 32, 283 units in the same month last year.
Bajaj has started fabrication of its new 125 cc DTS-Si motorcycle at Waluj, Aurangabad and aims sales total sales of 20,000 units in the recent month following the national launch.
With production and sales of its motorcycle projected to reach 50,000 units in November 2007, the company anticipates its motorcycle volumes to be in front of the corresponding period last year.
“With this, almost 75 per cent Bajaj's motorcycle portfolio would be in the more profitable 125 cc-250 cc segment,” the company added.
