Facebook Adds “Like” Button To Cut Comment Load

Facebook Adds “Like” Button To Cut Comment LoadFacebook, the social networking site, has recently added a FriendFeed-like feature in its news feeds.

It’s a button called “like”, which lets members to tell their pals what they think of a specific item in a stream of activities and a view of all others who have also liked it.

The members can apply “Like” labels to messages, pics, and other content.

Similar to FriendFeed’s, Facebook’s newly added feature ‘Like’ is a thumbs up with the phrase “I Like This”, which will pop up by just clicking the link. This will help members to engage with content, and to see what other people liked.

On ‘FriendFeed’, it’s called “Like” with a smiley face, and on ‘Facebook’, it’s a thumb’s up.

The feature, which appears to be getting a gradual roll-out, is placed in between the Comment and Share options.

In a blog post, Facebook's Leah Pearlman wrote, “Recently, I had a friend write a note about running her first marathon and another friend upload pictures of his new baby. In both cases, they ended up with over 30 comments, all saying: 'Awesome!' [or] 'Congrats!”

“The aggregation of the sentiment 'I like this' makes room in the comments section for longer accolades.”

Leah compared the new feature to how one might rate a restaurant.

“If you go to the restaurant and have a great time, you may want to rate it 5 stars. But if you had a particularly delicious dish there and want to rave about it, you can write a review detailing what you liked about the restaurant,” she wrote.

However, if you click the link by mistake or no longer enjoy your friends’ triumphs, there is an ‘unlike’ option available too.
