Sports Minister meets members of Anti Doping Panels
New Delhi, Feb 2 : Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. M. S. Gill met members of the Anti Doping Disciplinary Panel, Anti Doping Appeal Panel and Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) Committee here today.
During the meeting, the panels have also been advised to seek the advice of the international experts also in the area of Anti Doping to make their efforts more effective.
The panels have laid down the modalities for hearing of cases of Anti Doping Rule violation and doping. Henceforth, cases which have been found positive for doping would be presented before the panel which would, after giving them a fair hearing decide the quantum of sanction to be imposed the athletes.
It was also emphasized during the meeting that while the athletes would be given a full fair and impartial hearing, those who are found indulging in doping would face appropriate sanctions.
It was also decided that large scale dissemination of information and publicity will be done among athletes, sports persons and coaches etc. about ill effects of doping and consequences of doping so that the menace of doping can be controlled and eradicated in India
Anti Doping Disciplinary panel will hear the cases of athletes who have been tested positive for dope and conduct disciplinary proceedings against them. The Anti Doping Appeal Panel will hear appeals of the athletes against the decisions of sanctions issued by the Anti Doping Disciplinary panel.
The TUE Committee would give certificate of exemption to athletes who are taking drugs for treatment of genuine medical conditions. The above panels have been constituted of very experienced and eminent judicial personalities, medical practitioners and retired sports persons of repute.
As a departure from past practice. these panels do not have administrative officers and consist only of experts. The Anti Doping Disciplinary panel is headed by retired session Judge and the Anti Doping Appeal panel is headed by retired High Court Judge. (ANI)
