Agartala, Jan. 23 : The 113 th birth anniversary of revolutionary leader Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was celebrated in Agartala today with residents paying tribute to the martyrs of the November 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

The main programme was organized by the students of Netaji Subhash Vidya Niketan School.

Debadutta Mazumder, a participant, said: "We are saluting the martyrs of Mumbai attack who have sacrificed their life to save us. Today on the birth day celebration of a great hero we are also paying tribute to other heroes."

Droi Sinha, another participant, said:"We are celebrating Netaji Subhash Bose''s birth anniversary, and this year, we have come out with the theme of protesting violence. Recently there has been militant attack in Mumbai, Assam and Tripura. We are depicting the ugly face of violence."

A colouful rally was brought out to depict mainly Subhash Chandra Bose ideology and the freedom struggle, recent Mumbai attack, cosmopolitan society of India and the prevailing evils which are a curse to mankind.

Hundred of school students, different organizations and clubs participated in the rally that went through the streets of Agartala amid thousand of spectators'' crowding on both sides of the roads.

"A good number of groups have depicted the ugly face of militancy and violence and the recent Mumbai attack was also shown by the participant", said Rumella Dutta, an organiser.

Subhash Bose born in a refined Bengali family of Cuttack, was the catalyst for sowing the seeds of independent India and revolutionary ideals in the impressionist mind of the youngster.

Inspired by the call of Mahatma Gandhi''s Khadi Movement, but Netaji (beloved leader) was not fully convinced that civil disobedience alone was not going to be enough to bring freedom to India. Armed revolution was the answer; he joined and later was appointed the Commander-in-Chief of the National Volunteer Corps declared open war against the British rulers of India. In 1943, he organized the Indian National Army (I. N. A) and fought shoulder to shoulder against the allied forces in Burma and eastern front of India.

Though the death of Bose continues to remain a mystery inspite of several investigations, official documents declassified by the Government say he died in an air crash on August 18, 1945. (ANI)
