Nair says; Pictures of moon's surface have been provided by Chandrayaan-1
On Monday, it was informed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair that the scientific community in the country has been successful in acquiring complete picture of moon's surface and that too to an extent of five meter resolution and the credit goes to the success of Chandrayaan-1 mission.
Nair reported, “Though several moon missions were there in the past, no mission had provided pictures and data about the entire surface of the moon. However, Chandrayan-1 is the first mission which will give data on the entire surface.”
Mr. Nair that though United States is leading in the field of space science research, their mission is receiving pictures of moon's surface at 100 meters resolutions.
India would be immensely helped via the pictures sent by the mission to explore the Moon's surface in a better way and identifying minerals on the surface, said the ISRO chief, while speaking at a talk on 'Indian Space Programme'.
“In last two months Chandrayan-1 has sent more than 40,000 images to the base station.”
Nair also reported that by 2015, the Indian Space agency would be able to complete manned moon mission. He concluded that by the end of 11th plan period, the transponder capacity would be increased to 500. As of now, 211 transporters are being operated by ISRO.
