Trinamool Congress Wins Nandigram
Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee won the Nandigram by-election by steering the CPM and other left parties, while the young Congress candidate Masum Benajir Noor retained her mother’s, late Rubi Noor’s seat at Sujapur (Malda). The results of these elections were declared on Friday.
In these two by-elections, both the Trinamool Congress and the Congress fought jointly on a common understanding in order to overcome the CPM and other left parties and they were successful in their project.
While speaking on this, an elated Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee said , “This is the victory of the people. Mind it, this is the beginning of Left Front's end in West Bengal.”
However, on the Para Assembly seat in Purulia, CPM candidate Minu Bowri won by defeating her nearest JMM rival with a margin of 40,787 votes. In this constituency, Mamata did not field any candidate but she allowed the PDS, their partner in the farmers’ movement at Singur and Nandigram, to contest.
Mamata hoped that in the coming Lok Sabha and the following Assembly elections, the Nandigram and Sujapur formula would help them to oust the CPM from power in West Bengal.
She said these by-election results once again taught them the lesson to be united and defeat the CPM and other left parties in the coming elections.
