No US visa yet issued for Iranian president to attend UN

No US visa yet issued for Iranian president to attend UN Tehran - The United States has not yet issued a visa for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to attend the United Nations General Assembly later this month in New York, Fars news agency reported Saturday.

Despite a timely application for the visas, no visas have yet been issued for the president and any of the Iranian delegation members, Fars said.

Ahmadinejad is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 23 and expected to once again refer to the need of amending the status quo of the UN, which he says controlled by world powers, especially the US.

Ahmadinejad had the same problem last year when he wanted to go to New York. Tehran accused the US last year of purposefully delaying the process to disrupt the president's travel schedule.

The visas were eventually issued. (dpa)
