No Nuclear Discussion Without Voting, Says BJP

BJP leader L K Advani
New Delhi: The BJP today appeared set to stall parliament over its demands for voting in both Houses on the Indo-US nuclear agreement at the closure of a discussion on the contract.

After a meeting of party MPs led by Opposition Leader, L K Advani, senior BJP leader, Vijay Kumar said, “We stand by our demand for a vote on the nuclear deal under rule 184 in the Lok Sabha and rule 168 in the Rajya Sabha.”

Mr. Kumar told that the party would also continue with its needs for establishing a combined parliamentary commission on the 123 contract and dissolving what he called a personal UPA committee and the Left to verify the Communists’ protests over the contract.

In his brief lecture to the party MPs, Mr. Advani stated that they should leave for their constituencies shortly after the monsoon season gets over and emphasize to the people of ‘failures’ of the Congress-led administration.

The ex-deputy prime minister alleged that the ruling Congress has lost public interest due to its handling of internal security and over the N-deal with the U.S.

He also referred to a series of terrorist strikes in the state under the UPA rule.

Afterward NDA leaders assembled at Advani’s chamber and settled that they would not permit any discussion till the time their requests for voting and for disbanding of the UPA-Left committee and setting of JPC are met.
