Nissan to import 35,000 units of A-star in 2010-11

A-Star-CarJapanese automaker Nissan Motor Company will be importing at least 35,000 units of A-Star from Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant in the FY 2010-11. The company's Chairman has recently confirmed the fact that under the three-year contract with the Japanese automaker Nissan will import at least 35,000 units of A-Star in the next financial year, according to the terms of the contract.

In fact, if the demand of the product shoots up, Nissan has an option of place an order for more units depending on the situation. For instance, Maruti Suzuki exported 54,000 units of A-Star to Nissan in the period of 2009-10.

After Volkswagen picked up a 20% stake in Suzuki Motor Corporation, it was speculated that Maruti Suzuki may not want to go with Nissan as the Germen automaker will not be comfortable sharing Maruti's R&D abilities with Nissan.

Analysts are of a view that the renewing the agreement may also not make sense because the market composition and the demand structure may vary by then. Nissan currently sells the A-Star under the Pixo brand in the European markets.
