Nintendo’s Wii sets sale record in UK with £738m
London, July 15: Computer game sales records in the UK have just been shattered thanks to the humongous demand for Nintendo’s Wii console.
In the first half of this year itself, stores in the UK sold a stunning 31 million games.
In terms of money, that means games worth 738 million pounds were sold.
Paul Jackson, of the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association, said sales were linked to the age of core gamers, with the average age being 33.
“As our core gamers have grown up, so have the revenues they bring in,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.
Nintendo’s sales saw a rise of 42 per cent when compared to the same period in 2007. Overall sales of consoles also rose, with sales of the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS up 41 per cent to 3.1 million. (ANI)
