Nileema Mishra and Harish Hande Receive Magsaysay Award

MagsaysayEvery year, extraordinary achievements of Indians are being heard, and this year as well, two Indians has brought laurels to the county. It has been reported that Nileema Mishra and Harish Hande were, recently, awarded with the Ramon Magsaysay Award.

The contribution made by them to the country is impeccable. It has been told that Hande, a Bangalore-based energy engineer and entrepreneur, has provided inexpensive renewable energy services to poor villagers. Besides, he has helped financially by providing financing and services at the doorstep of the needy.

Hande runs SELCO firm, which is country’s leading solar technology firm. It has emerged that, with the efforts of Company; about 1, 25,000 homes in India were provided with renewable energy.

Although the contribution made by Hande is impeccable, Nileema Mishra’s contribution is also not miniature. During the award ceremony, she was awarded Magsaysay Award for "her purpose-driven zeal to work tirelessly with villagers in Maharashtra, organizing them to successfully address both their aspirations and their adversities through collective action and heightened confidence in their potential to improve their own lives".

The Magsaysay Award was established in 1957 in the memory of third Philippine President. The award is presented to the individuals or organizations every year, in Asia, whose services are matched with the late Filipino leader.
