Nigel Short Makes His Hat-Trick

Living upto its expectations the British bred Nigel Short won his third Nigel Short Makes His Hat-TrickCommonwealth Chess title after dismissing Arun Prasad’s in the finals at the Naivedhyam Celebrations Centre on Monday. 

The winner who won the cash prize of Rs.1.8 lakh has made his hat-trick by winning the title for the third time. Earlier he bagged the winning spree in 2004 and 2006. Commenting on this Short said, "Commonwealth is something very special for me."And with his victory he now becomes the only person to get three commonwealth titles.

Short playing with black pegs gradually gained grip over the game marking his victory on the 29th move against his 20-year old opponent from Chennai. He said, "It was a tough game, I was surprised to see him (Arun) resign so quickly. Of course, I was an exchange up but there were some possibilities for him to put up a fight. Frankly speaking, I was relieved to see him resign."

The second slot with the cash prize of Rs 1.25 lakh was won by Surya Sekhar Ganguly against Abhijit Kunte in 22 moves which lasted for 90 minutes.
