Nicole Kidman will be Playing Transsexual in Period Drama
Australian actress, Nicole Kidman, is all set to produce and star as the world's first post-operation transsexual married to Charlize Theron in 'The Danish Girl', a film based on the true life story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener. Their marriage undergoes a deep change when Einar (Kidman) stands in for a female model Greta
(Theron) is to paint.
As their portraits become hugely popular in the Copenhagen of the 1920s, Einar encouraged by his wife to adopt the female guise, undergoes the landmark 1931 operation and in what began as a harmless has him metamorphosis into a female, thus threatening their love for each other.
Anand Tucker of Shopgirl fame will be directing the film that Lucinder Coxon of Wild Target has adapted from the 2000 Viking bestseller authored by David Ebershoff, whose debut novel fictionalizes the Wegeners' true story.
Kidman and Theron are ideally suited for their roles, having already earned best actress Oscars for playing lesbian characters, in 'The Hours' and 'Monster', respectively. As well, Kidman is also slated to play the role of Dusty Springfield in the biopic film being made about the bisexual English singer.
Pre-production work has started on the indie film, though no details about when the actual film will be shot has been disclosed.
