NHS Paying too Much?

NHS Paying too Much? The medical staff is apparently paid more than their colleagues overseas. The NHS in England is attempting to cut £20bn from their annual budget over the next four years. Their salaries make up two thirds of the budget.

The only way to revise salaries is to look at wages relevant to the average national income. Nurses in the UK are paid an average amount when compared to other countries in US and Australia. So it seems that the UK pays its GP more highly than any other OECD country and nearly twice as much as France.

A recent survey shows that 7 of 10 best paid NHS staff were GPs. Tops GPs earned £475,000. Results from another survey conducted showed that more than 14% of GPs of the current 46, 000 across the country plan on retiring within the next two years. Most planned to because of age but other were unhappy with changes to health services.

When asked how to solve GPs unhappiness, Nye Bevan suggested to “stuff their mouths with gold”. People’s plans to retire means that there will be a shortage of health care works. The government suggested that they will need 108,000 new nurses and 62, 000 doctors to cope with the aging population as well.

Once financial plans are made the NHS will eventually have to start paying GPs more to retain their staff and make sure they’re ‘happy’.
