New Zealand and India Still Finalizing Agreement

New Zealand and India Still Finalizing AgreementNew Zealand Prime Minister, John Key hopes to finalize the proposal for free trade that is being made with India by March of next year. Key is on a three-day visit to India to finalize the process. He is hoping to have it signed by March 2012, but it will also depend on the agreement with India’s Prime Minister.

India is hoping to get access to the market through the FTA and New Zealand is hoping to push dairy products into India. It seems that both countries have their reason for this agreement. The agreement will also offer India more access to Indian professions. However, there is still an emphasis on the level of skills required for a job.

The discussion to make such agreement stated making negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement, last year and has already had five rounds of talk.

Key stated: “We’ve had 4-5 rounds of negotiations so far. And we expect there to be at least another found rounds before a deal. We hope to complete it by early 2012, but I think we need to acknowledge that these things sometimes take a bit longer”.
