New Ford ad angers many in India
A new ad by Ford India Private Limited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of American car maker Ford Motor Company, has received angry responses from many in India.
The ad has received criticism from automobile industry players and press media alike for being offensive and distasteful after it appeared on the internet. The new ad reportedly displays scantily clad women in embarrassing situations including bound, gagged and stuffed in the luggage compartment of the company's Ford Figo compact hatch.
The company has given the tagline, "Leave your worries behind with the Figo's extra-large boot", to the offensive ad campaign. Many believe that the ad are in bad taste and disrespectful to women. According to reports, three Ford Figo ads have appeared on the internet. One of them showed former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, socialite Paris Hilton and Formula One driver Michael Schumacher in an inappropriate manner.
The ad also showed Kardashian sisters from the reality television show in the US being hauled by Hilton and the sisters had indicated that they are considering legal options against the auto major.
Ford India has expressed regret over the ads and said that they should have never been created.
