Kathmandu, May 5 : Top leaders of the Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) on Monday held separate consultations with the leaders of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-Maoist on the formation of a new government and the task of the Constituent Assembly (CA).

According to Kantipur, in both the meetings, the parties have agreed to convene the Seven-Party Alliance (SPA) meeting within next few days to decide the structure of a new government.

Prime Minister and NC President Girija Prasad Koirala, Acting-President Sushil Koirala, Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel, UML Acting General Secretary Amit Kumar Bohara, leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Bharat Mohan Adhikari were present during the meeting held at the PM’s official residence at Baluwatar this morning.

According to Bohara, the meeting mainly dwelt on the future alliance with new parties such as Madhesi People’s Right Forum (MPRF) and Terai-Madhes Democratic Party
(TMDP), which have secured significant number of seats in the CA.

Two major allies in the interim government Nepal Congress (NC) and UML were of the common opinion that the CPN-Maoist, as the largest party in the CA, should propose the model for formation of a new government on the basis of national consensus as the people have mandated for the same, Bohara added.

The meeting also consulted about the structure of the next government, the parties’ participation in the government, the first CA meeting and the implementation of republic, among other issues.

Bohara said that Koirala has been urged to call the SPA meeting within this week.

PM Koirala said that the SPA meeting would be convened after consulting with other SPA constituents.

Meanwhile, another meeting was held at UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal’s residence at Koteshwor among the leadership of the UML and the Maoist.

The meeting was focused on the issues of the task of the CA and structure of the next government.

Emerging from the meeting, Maoist Chairman Prachanda informed that the consultation was positive.

He opined that a new constitution can be drafted only if the older parties and the newer parties emerged in the CA elections maintain coordination and join the government.

He stressed on the need for consensus among the parties to end monarchy and implement republic.

Likewise, UML’s Bohara said agreement is necessary among the political parties adding that the next government cannot be formed without the consensus among the SPA.

The ongoing UML central committee meeting will decide whether the party will join the soon-to-be-formed government, he further informed.

The two parties have reached an agreement to convene the SPA meeting within next few days to decide the structure of a new government and tie up the future alliance among the parties, which have secured significant positions in the CA elections.

The major political parties intensified formal intra-party consultations to prepare for the first CA meeting after the final CA polls result came out.

On Sunday, PM Koirala met with Prachanda and urged the latter to take initiatives to form the next government on the basis of consensus. (ANI)
