Kathmandu, June 12 : Nepal committed to work with UN for world peace: Girija Prasad KoiralaNepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has expressed the commitment of Nepal to work in close cooperation with the United Nations to contribute for establishment of peace in the world.

In a statement issued on the occasion of 50th anniversary of the UN's peacekeeping mission, Koirala said that Nepal remains fully committed to continue to work with the United Nations and contribute in whatever way it can to the cause of intentional peace and security.

“This is the reflection of clear commitment to Nepal's foreign policy objectives,” he added.

He said since the beginning of the UN peacekeeping operations, Nepal Army has been continuously participating in the missions.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ban ki-Moon in his message has praised Nepal for its contribution in UN missions. He said Nepal ranks among the first five contributors to world peace initiatives.

In the last half a century, Nepal has contributed over 60,000 peacekeepers in some 40 peacekeeping missions under the UN.

"Over these six decades, more than two thousand and four men and women have died serving the cause of peace including over 60 from Nepal. Today, we recommit ourselves to ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten, and the vital work of the blue helmets continues as long as they are needed," Ban ki-Moon said, Nepalnews reported.
