NASA’s Juno spacecraft to reveal Jupiter’s Formation and Other details

NASA is going to have a close-up look at Jupiter. It will accomplish its task through Juno spacecraft, which will reach at Jupiter on July 4, 2016. With the help of the spacecraft, NASA will come to know how the planet has formed and will also find out information on its structure.

NASA's Juno team is making preparations for the spacecraft's arrival and after it is there, the spacecraft will send back data on earth. As a part of the preparations, NASA's InfraRed Telescope Facility (IRTF) has taken infrared images of the planet on May 16, 2015.

This act will help know what Juno's instruments will get when it will reach the planet. NASA said that Juno will be having many tasks once it reaches Jupiter. It will be doing mapping of the atmosphere's water vapor and gravity fields.

Juno will explore the regions that have not been explored before of Jupiter. The spacecraft will send some unique images that have never been seen before of the planet. Every two weeks, Juno will complete a full revolution of the planet.

Juno's mission will last for 20 months, addition of five months have been made. It will complete two more orbits. Juno would have to bear the radiation hazard and will slowly move down to the closest point within few thousand miles.

"We're already more than 90 percent of the way to Jupiter, in terms of total distance traveled", said Scott Bolton, Juno principal investigator at Southwest Research Institute, San Antonio.
