Muniyappa clinches Indian Open title

Chinnaswamy MuniyappaIndia's Chinnaswamy Muniyappa has won the US $1.25-million Indian Open title at the DLF Golf and Country Club on Sunday. Muniyappa pocketed the winner's cheque of 198, 125 dollars and he moved to sixth place from 97th in the Order of Merit.

The 32-year old, Muniyappa carded two-under par 70 on the final day to win his first ever Asian Tour title. This can be regarded as one of the greatest achievement for a boy who had earned one rupee after working as a caddie at the age of seven in Bangalore.

Muniyappa was leading by one stroke at the start of play but Lee carded a birdie on the last hole to finish tied with him at 12-under-par 276. Muniyappa scored four birdies in the final round at seventh, ninth, eleventh and fifteenth holes.

Australian Marcus Both (71), Kwanchai Tannin of Thailand (70) and India's Anirban Lahiri (64) shared the second spot. Muniyappa, excited by this win, said that he was not having any sponsors and money with him but now he can participate in the European Tour as he has earned some money from this title win.
